Thread-waisted Wasp

Thread-waisted wasps range in size from 5/8" to 2 1/8".

They live in open areas and around flowers.

The adults eat nectar and small insects.

The female digs into soft soil and looks for insect prey.  She then lays her egg on the insect.

The larva then feeds on nonessential tissue and then eats anything it can find, killing the host.
